Rod McDermott, CEO of McDermott & Bull Executive Search, considers business aviation to be an integral part of the company’s success. The Irvine, CA-based firm is an international executive search company specializing in aviation/aerospace, financial services, technology, healthcare and life sciences, and consumer products. Since acquiring its first aircraft, McDermott & Bull has opened a number of offices throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
“The business has expanded with the range of the airplanes we’ve owned,” said McDermott. “I couldn’t accomplish as much as I do without the airplane. Also, much of our business is in remote areas, either underserved or not served by airlines, so the airplane allows me to cover more territory faster than any other mode of transportation.”
McDermott said he uses the Citation Jet (CJ2) 250-300 hours a year and believes the use of business aviation has allowed his company to grow faster than possible without the use of a business aircraft.
McDermott upgrades the company’s aircraft every year or two, and new locations have opened with each upgrade. Today, business aviation allows McDermott to visit and manage offices in Vancouver, Canada; Denver, CO; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; and Hailey, ID, among others.
McDermott also uses the airplane to support non-profit and charitable organizations. He donates his time and the airplane for Angel Flight missions, as well as donating flights for Angel Flight fundraising auctions, as well as for a separate local hospital’s annual gala auction.
