Louisiana’s Revitalized Feliciana Airpark – a Success Story Waiting to Happen

Jackson Airport (4LA3) in Jackson, LA sat vacant for more than two decades, and was considered derelict until 2009. That’s when East Feliciana Parish Economic Development District board member Chris Ferguson asked if the airport might be the parish’s key to improved economic development. Today, the airport has been vastly improved, and is now known as Feliciana Airpark (LA3).

Aviation, Aerospace Now Second-Largest Economic Sector in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin recently announced the findings of the Oklahoma Aviation & Aerospace Economic Impact Study, which showed that aviation and aerospace is the second-largest economic engine in the state. The study found that almost $44 billion in annual economic activity is being produced in the sector, supporting 206,000 jobs and an $11.7 billion payroll. “These economic impact studies paint a much more realistic picture of the importance of business aviation and airports to the public and our elected officials,” said Steve Hadley, NBAA’s regional program director.

Pilots N Paws Seeking Business Aircraft to Fly Animals from Houston Region

In light of the human toll wrought by Hurricane Harvey, it’s easy to overlook the other victims left in the wake of the storm. Pilots N Paws founder Debi Boies is seeking business aircraft operators willing to transport shelter animals from the affected areas. “There will be an ongoing need to transport these animals over the next several weeks,”” she said. “Even if you may not be able to help today, we appreciate all the help we can get tomorrow.”

GAMA Announces 2018 Aviation Design Challenge to Inspire Next Generation of Industry Professionals

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and Build A Plane recently opened registration for the 2018 Aviation Design Challenge, a competition that aims to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among high school students. The challenge teaches basic aviation engineering concepts, and allows students to apply their lessons to modifying an airplane design. “Previous participants in the Aviation Design Challenge have pursued careers in aviation manufacturing and other aviation fields after graduation,” said Sarah McCann, GAMA’s director of communications.

Santa Monica Airport Events Raise Public Awareness of Airport’s Importance to Community

The Santa Monica Airport Association has significantly increased its public outreach program for 2017, hosting events each month to invite the public onto the Santa Monica Municipal Airport (SMO). The events are designed to play a key role in reaching out to the wider community surrounding the airport by highlighting the many benefits that the airport provides. The most recent public event was held Aug. 12, and focused specifically on business aviation, and its role at the airport.

Highlight the Value of Business Aviation on National Aviation Day

National Aviation Day, observed each year on Aug. 19, celebrates the history of aviation in the U.S. and its importance to communities and citizens around the country – a sentiment shared by the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign. National Aviation Day provides industry stakeholders with an opportunity to highlight the importance of business aviation, which is vital to job creation; business efficiency; keeping communities connected and supporting worthy humanitarian endeavors. 

No Plane No Gain Advocacy Campaign to be Featured at Upcoming NBAA Regional Forum

Attendees at NBAA’s Sept. 7 Regional Forum in Morristown, NJ will find an abundance of resources to help them get the word out about the value business aviation brings to communities, citizens and companies around the country. The always popular No Plane No Gain lapel pins, along with #BizAvWorks stickers and cards, and other resources will be available for attendees to review and take with them.
