Governors Say Increased Funding for Rural Airports Key to Economic Growth
Two governors in the Southeast have recognized that having their rural general aviation airports upgraded is a key element in driving increased economic development. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal recently proposed $25 million in increased funding for improvements and expansions at 11 rural airports, while Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin recently allocated $20 million for rural airport improvements. “These top state executives are realizing they have to improve their rural airports because they have a direct correlation with economic development,” said Greg Voos, NBAA Southeast regional representative.

Business Aviation Company Looks to Better Industry Through Apprenticeships
West Star Aviation has teamed up with CareerWise in Colorado to establish a long-term apprenticeship beginning this summer. “There is a growing need for new trade and skill development, especially in aviation, and there is a lack of trade schools for aircraft maintenance and paint, so if we can train students interested in the aviation market, we can take them to whatever level we want or need them to be at,” said Katie Johnson, director of human resources at West Star Aviation.
