Mayors in two U.S. cities issued proclamations recently highlighting business aviation as a vital asset to their cities and states. All city leaders indicated that as part of the broader general aviation economic impact, business aviation continues to bring vitality to their communities.
To date, hundreds of local and state officials have made similar statements about the importance of the industry, with new proclamations issued each month from officials around the country.
Goodyear, AZ
In her proclamation of February 2020 as “General Aviation Month,” Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord said that aviation supports $609 million in economic activity for Arizona and that the state’s network of airports represents a national public benefit.
“Leaders should invest in this critical infrastructure to ensure future economic growth and out next generation or aviation professionals and pilots,” she wrote.

Martinsburg, WV
Martinsburg Mayor George Karos said aviation in his city – and Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport – helped to contribute over $1 billion to the state’s economy and encouraged all citizens to recognize aviation as a “vital strategic resource.”
