General aviation, including business aviation, is a vital contributor to the economy in every state, and in April, the governors of Kansas, Rhode Island and Utah, as well as several mayors across the country, officially recognized the industry for the important role it plays. Every state, in addition to hundreds of communities throughout the United States, have highlighted general aviation over the years for its contributions to the success of companies and citizens around the country.

Kansas

“Kansas is home to numerous businesses, big and small, who serve a vital role in the aviation industry,” Gov. Laura Kelly wrote in her proclamation, adding her state is home to Cessna, Beechcraft and Bombardier Learjet and “contributes more aircraft to the world economy than anywhere else.”

General aviation and community airports are important to the state’s commerce and tourism, bringing in more than $9 billion annually to Kansas’ economy.

Rhode Island

According to Gov. Gina Raimondo, “General aviation in Rhode Island supports 1,476 jobs in the state, resulting in more than $213 million in annual economic output.”

General aviation plays a vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters, rescue operations and air ambulance transports as well as police and mail service throughout the state.

Utah

“Utah is home to 46 public-use airports, which serve 8,570 pilots and 6,852 active general aviation aircraft,” Gov. Gary Herbert wrote in his proclamation.

General aviation supports Utah’s economy, supporting more than 11,000 jobs, resulting in more than $618 million in labor income.
