Don Weishuhn, 47, is a successful business owner who has mastered the art of making full use of his day – a skill he credits in part to his company’s use of business aviation.

Weishuhn is the hands-on owner of fast-growing AMcomm Telecommunications, based in White Lake, MI. The company started in 1991 as a local cable TV hookup business and is now one of the leaders in the telecommunications installation industry, providing voice, video and data installations for government and private companies in all 50 states.

“My company has benefited as much as I have [by operating] this airplane, which is a piston-engine, instrument-equipped Piper Arrow. I log about 130,000 miles a year, and without the airplane I’d be on the road every day from 4 a.m. to 11 or 11:30 p.m. With the airplane, I can be where I need to be in a fraction of the time.”

While the bulk of the company’s business is still in Michigan, Weishuhn has been able to establish regional offices in Indiana and Tennessee, and serves a variety of municipalities and businesses throughout the country.

“They [a customer] could call me up tonight and say, ‘Listen, you have a pre-bid meeting in Tennessee tomorrow morning.’ I can fly to that pre-bid meeting and be back home by four o’clock in the afternoon,” says Weishuhn. “If I had to drive that, I would have had to stay the night in Tennessee.

“If we didn’t have the airplane, it would raise our cost of doing business and we wouldn’t get as many contracts,” concluded Weishuhn.
